THE INNER SNACK
A Specialist’s Guide To Re-Setting Your Inner Compass And Changing Your Life For Good
‘We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are’. Anais Nin
When life feels difficult most of us become increasingly focused on the CONTENT of what’s going on in our THOUGHTS, FEELINGS, IMAGINATION and / or BODY. In this model, I’ve called these major aspects of our inner world ‘PRIMARY INTERNAL POSITIONS’ (PIPs). Whilst it’s good to have tools to care for this content, and sometimes it’s good to have a bit of help to do that, the PROCESS of how we manage these PIPs (or not) is equally, if not more important.
The INNER SNACK is a simple yet dynamic model which uses a memorable acronym to describe a plan for us to intervene, to create change in our inner world in a caring, effective way.
S
SEEK WITHIN
Make it your job to look inside, to check out what’s going on in there.
N
NOTICE WHERE YOUR FOCUS IS
Which of the PIPs are you focusing on? Often, in times of distress, we will be giving attention particularly to our thoughts and feelings.
a
ASK FOR HELP
Just ask ... whether, for you, this is the Universe or God, or another person you trust who can help you with this process. Asking opens us within in an attitude of humility.
C
CHOOSE A TOOL
From the Tools tab, choose a technique to use to withdraw your attention ie to stop empowering and enlarging something that’s bad for you.
K
KNOW YOU CAN CREATE CHANGE
Where you put your attention is up to you! You may not be used to such conscious choosing but it’s a new and liberating way to live. With repetition you’ll succeed!
