Covid-19

The Impact of Tragedy

Due to Covid-19 this has been a difficult time for us all. It’s understandable that we have felt scared. We have faced loss of various kinds and been called upon to adapt as well as possible. This has meant not only looking after our physical health and our emotional / psychological experience but perhaps even finding new meaning in what it means to be a human being in the shared experience of life on Earth. Perhaps we have listened too long to the noise of the mind - the egoic prattling, self-obsessed voice which covers up the deeper voice of Love which dwells quietly within us all.

Stress depletes the immune system and so is always crucial that we look after our inner world so that we can protect ourselves and others as well as we can.

The Inner Snack team hope this resource might help you to gain a greater sense of control within the workings of your inner world - so that you can always feel as comfortable as possible and adapt well to any changes life brings your way. Other than complying with medical advice, we couldn't exert control on the activity of the pandemic. But we can manage our inner world with more understanding and conscious, caring choice. Remember, too, you have courage and inner resources which you can call upon. Just one little step at a time - it’s all we need to deal with ... just this moment, now, and in this we can know we’re doing our best. And in any given moment, no-one can do more than their best

It is tragic that so many have died, often not even able to hold the hand of their loved ones as they slipped away. Perhaps, in honour of them, we might ponder what may be learned from this collective catastrophe.

- We are not isolated units but all interconnected - a community of beings.

- Compassion and kindness are not only crucial but the bedrock of the human ‘pattern’ ... our shared experience, our shared health.

- Animals are not here to be mercilessly hunted and utilised by humans. They are sentient beings who have a right to a good life. As a ‘civilised’ species, surely it is our calling to care for them with respect and kindness?

‘The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.’

- Ghandi

‘When the earth is ravaged and the animals are dying, a new tribe shall come unto the earth from many colours, classes, creeds, and who by their actions and deeds shall make the earth green again. They will be known as the warriors of the Rainbow.’

- Native American prophecy.

‘As I saw the situation of my country deteriorating, my heart became lighter. I knew after the long darkness there would be a dawn. When the darkness grew darker and darker, the dawn grew closer and closer.’

- Alfred Huang - Taoist Master
